The Euphrates Potez 29-4 biplane

This airmail issue juxtaposes Syria's ancient geography with the technological progress of the early 20th century by depicting a biplane soaring over the Euphrates River. The illustration features the river winding past a traditional fortress—likely Qal'at Ja'bar—and a small riverboat, symbolizing the transition from historical modes of transport to modern aviation. The message is one of institutional modernization and regional connectivity, highlighting the river not only as a cradle of civilization but as a strategic corridor for the "Poste Aérienne." In the Syrian context, this program underscores the importance of the eastern territories and the Euphrates as a vital lifeblood for agriculture and communication, framing the nation as a forward-looking state that remains deeply anchored in its strategic and natural landscape.
