This Syrian airmail stamp was released in 1946 as part of a definitive air post series issued by the newly independent Syrian Republic (Al-Jumhuriyah as-Suriyah, inscribed in Arabic at the top). It carries a face value of 300 Piastres,. The central vignette of the stamp features a twin-engine propeller aircraft soaring over the historical Sultan Ibrahim Mosque (Mosquée Sultan Ibrahim / جامع السلطان ابراهيم) located in the coastal city of Jableh, Syria. Named after the revered 8th-century Sufi mystic and Islamic scholar Ibrahim ibn Adham, the mosque complex boasts a rich blend of Seljuk, Mamluk, and Ottoman architectural enhancements, beautifully detailed on the stamp by its array of signature domes and its singular towering minaret. By placing a modern transport plane directly above an ancient landmark, the design reflects a popular mid-20th-century philatelic motif that celebrated national heritage alongside advancements in contemporary aviation.
