Plane over Damascus - 3 piastre
Framed by two classical columns that evoke Syria's ancient Greco-Roman heritage, this airmail stamp highlights the capital city of Damascus as a symbol of historical longevity and modern advancement. The central view illustrates the dense cityscape of Damascus, dominated by the majestic dome and prominent minarets of the historic Umayyad Mosque set against the backdrop of Mount Qasioun. Hovering above this cradle of civilization is a multi-engine transport plane, creating a powerful visual metaphor for national modernization, infrastructure development, and the expansion of postal aviation. This composition weaves together Syria’s rich religious history, diverse architectural identity, and forward-looking economic ambitions into a singular image of institutional pride.
