Issued in the 1950s as part of Syria’s definitive series depicting important historical landmarks, this stamp commemorates a Crusader fortress, one of the many medieval strongholds constructed during the period of the Crusades. These fortifications played a significant role in the military and political history of the Levant, serving as defensive positions and centers of administration along key routes linking the Mediterranean coast with the interior of the region.
