Aboulula El Maarri - 2 piastre
This issue commemorates Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri, one of the most influential poets, philosophers, and skeptics in Islamic history, hailing from the Syrian town of Ma'arrat al-Nu'man. The portrait depicts the blind sage in traditional scholarly attire, framed by sun rays and intricate geometric patterns that evoke the "Golden Age" of Arab intellectualism. The theme focuses on the cultural and philosophical depth of the Syrian identity, emphasizing a legacy of critical thought, literary mastery, and intellectual courage. By honoring al-Ma'arri, the stamp projects a message of national pride in Syria's contributions to global humanism and its role as a historical cradle for some of the world's most profound thinkers.
