This commemorative stamp was issued by the Syrian Republic in 1948 to mark the enactment of the compulsory military conscription law, inscribed in Arabic across the lower scroll as "Commemoration of the General Service Law" (ذكرى قانون الخدمة العامة). This landmark legislation formalized mandatory military service for young Syrian citizens as part of a post-independence push to build a unified, standing national army capable of defending the young republic's borders. Bearing a postal value of 12.50 piastres ("12P50" and "١٢.٥ ق"), the stamp was designed by the acclaimed artist Paul Koroleff (P. Koroleff) and produced by the Imprimerie Catholique in Beirut (I.C. Beyrouth), matching the elegant design language of Syria’s late-1940s commemorative sets.
